District : Shopian

With the development of the Mughal Road Hirpora, situated 10 Kms away from Town Shopian, has assumed one of the most important transit locations on the historical road. It is bounded to the north by lake Gumsar, north east by Hirpora village, east by Rupri and south by Saransar and to the west Pir Panjal Pass. In India the famous Markhor (Capra Falconeri) is found in only two places- Hirpora (Shopian District) being one of them. Hirpora Wildlife Sanctuary was primarily established for the protection and conservation of Markhor. In order to promote mountaineering and trekking activities, it is proposed to develop a Pro-Shop( Hire Shop), rented cycling shop at Hirpora for that purpose 30 lacs are required in the first instance, besides, for the development of basic amenities.
